Arsenal fans love what William Saliba did in his final loan game with Nice

Arsenal defender William Saliba has ended his loan spell at Ligue Un side Nice in style.

The centre-back rose highest at the back post to head home a fine goal to give his team a 3-2 lead during the second half against Champions League-chasing Lyon

Saliba's goal was the first of his senior career and Arsenal fans were delighted to see the 20-year-old shine before returning to the Emirates.

The former Saint-Etienne defender has excelled at Nice since his move in January, missing just two matches and helping his team to keep three clean sheets since his arrival.

Saliba will now return to Arsenal, where he is set to challenge for a spot in the starting XI next season following the departure of David Luiz from the club.

Mikel Arteta was clearly not convinced about his talent by allowing him to leave on loan in January and will have a keen eye on the Frenchman over the summer and the pre-season in order to determine if he is ready for the rigours of a Premier League campaign.

Arsenal's eighth-placed finish to the league campaign does mean there are fewer games for Arteta to rotate his team with no European football to use as a chance to blood youngsters, as he has done with the likes of Emile Smith Rowe.

The Arsenal fans are clearly convinced by Saliba's talent but whether he will be trusted to start for the Gunners next season, remain at the club as a squad player or a further loan is yet to be determined.

Here's how they reacted on Twitter.

The moves Arteta and technical director Edu make in the transfer market could well decide what Saliba's immediate Gunners future holds.

According to the Daily Express Arsenal are interested in a £50million move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

The Frenchman would be a certain starter if he is signed for a fee in that region and could see Saliba slide further down the pecking order at The Emirates.
