Arsenal are likely to be busy in the transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to put his stamp on the squad ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Despite a disappointing eighth place finish in the Premier League, the Gunners had a successful end to the season by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
Not only did it add to the collection of silverware at the Emirates Stadium, but it also ensured that the club would be playing European football again next season.
Arteta arrived at Arsenal knowing that he would have to rebuild the squad and has already been linked with a number of transfer targets during the window.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is one of the Gunners’ top targets this season, but defence is also another area that Arteta will be looking to strengthen.
Dayot Upamecano has been linked, but the defender signed a new deal with RB Leipzig last month.
Another defender who is said to be interesting Arsenal is Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes, with the Gunners reported to be ahead in the race for his signature this summer.
The center-back has already sent a few social media hints over a possible move to the Emirates Stadium.
And the comments section of the 22-year-old’s latest social media post has caught the eye of Arsenal fans.
Alongside a picture of him playing, the defender wrote: “What makes me happy.” Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe then commented in French about the caption being in English.
“I admit you speak English,” he wrote.
On seeing the comment, Gunners fans have taken to social media to laud the Frenchman’s role in a potential transfer.
Magalhaes has impressed in Ligue 1 this season and has played a total of 34 times in all competitions for Lille during the 2019/20 campaign, scoring one goal.
Arsenal however are not alone in their interest in the defender, with Everton and Manchester United also linked with the player.
It’s not the first time that there has been an interaction between Pepe and Magalhaes, with the latter sending a message to Pepe following the FA Cup final victory.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that the friendship between the two will be enough to convince the defender to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.
