Arsenal fans love what Didier Deschamps said to Matteo Guendouzi after his France call-up

Matteo Guendouzi received his first France call-up after Paul Pogba was ruled out of their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers through injury.

Pogba picked up an ankle problem after Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday, which led to France boss Didier Deschamps calling up the Arsenal midfielder.

The 20-year-old, who put in a man-of-the-match performance in the north London derby against Tottenham, will be part of the squad for France's upcoming matches against Albania and Andorra.

The France national team Twitter account posted a video of Guendouzi explaining his reaction to being called up, and Deschamps greeting the Gunners star.

On the video, the midfielder said: "Actually, I was taking a nap and someone knocked on my door. I didn’t answer because I was sleeping I swear.

"Then my phone rang and it was the coach on the phone. He said, “It’s me, I knocked” and so on. Obviously I went and opened the door straight away! ‘And then he said, “Matteo, come here, we need to talk.” He said, “I like you very much but you have to leave.

"And I said, “What do you mean I have to leave? What do you mean?” He said, “Actually, you’re going with the senior France national team. ‘In my mind I was like, at first I couldn’t believe it. Ten minutes before I was asleep, I thought it was still a dream!

"The coach and I, we had a good talk, he explained it well. That’s it, he told me I was in the national team of France. It’s a dream. I’m glad I just showered for the sake of my awareness."

Seen on the video, Deschamps was seen greeting Guendouzi with the World Cup winning coach saying: "How are you? I heard you wanted to see the castle. Welcome, are you alright? No worries?

"Have a good setup [being part of the group]."

Arsenal fans took to social media to express their delight at the midfielder's call-up.
