Arsenal fans in agreement over Edu as Bukayo Saka stands out for Gunners

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Thursday, December 17.

Arsenal fans in agreement over Edu

Some Arsenal supporters are in agreement over Edu following the side's latest game against Southampton.

The Gunners drew 1-1 with the Saints at the Emirates Stadium with former fan favourite Theo Walcott coming back to haunt his old team with the opener in north London.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised for Mikel Arteta's side, but it turned out to be another frustrating evening for the London club, who are now without a win in six Premier League outings.

Gabriel Magalhaes' red card in the second-half made it an even more difficult task for the Gunners, who couldn't find a winner on the night.

Mikel Arteta: It's impossible to have 31 happy players

A big talking point, however, was when the camera cut to Arsenal's technical director Edu and the Brazilian shook his head - almost in disbelief in what he was seeing unfold. Here are some of the fans reacting to what Edu did at the Emirates.

Gunners player ratings

Speaking of the game, and football.london have rated every player who was involved in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates.

Unsurprisingly, Gabriel only scored a rating of three - due to his sending off - but other players, including Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Bernd Leno and Kieran Tierney could only manage one higher than that with four out of a possible 10.

Bukayo Saka had another brilliant match for Arsenal and he scored seven, with only the goalscorer Aubameyang rating the same as the young England international. Here are the player ratings from the 1-1 draw.

Arteta, Edu in agreement on next transfer

Mikel Arteta and Edu agree that Arsenal's next transfer should be a creative midfielder.

Arsenal had a bid rejected for Lyon's Houssem Aouar in the summer and they have long been interested in RB Salzburg's Dominik Szoboszlai, as first reported by football.london over a year ago.

And Arsenal technical director Edu recognises that this type of midfielder is the Gunners' greatest need at present.

Speaking at an Arsenal fans forum on Tuesday, Edu said: "It’s quite clear what we need. We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now."

Arteta has previously spoken of the need to find more creativity in midfield. Speaking to Sky Sports in July, he said: "Look at the players that we had in the past at this club in those positions.

"You go back to (Santi) Cazorla, to (Tomas) Rosicky, to (Andrey) Arshavin when he played there, to (Aaron) Ramsey when he played there, to (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan when he came in. Even Jack Wilshere used to play in those pockets all the time.

"That is a lot of players who are now not here. We have to renew that cycle, because if not, those kinds of players won't be there for us anymore. They are a big part of what any squad needs."

With the January transfer window on the horizon, Arsenal could soon add a creative midfielder.
