Arsenal fans have decided David Luiz's perfect replacement after Mikel Arteta admission

Some Arsenal fans have taken to social media to name the perfect long-term replacement for David Luiz.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and talk of a renewal hasn't been ruled out by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.

"No, there are still a few months to go on that," he said after David Luiz's man-of-the-match display in the goalless draw against Manchester United last weekend. "I all the time talk to him about this kind of thing so we’re in a good position."

Although, three days later the defender had an evening to forget as he was, somewhat, controversially sent-off in Arsenal's 2-1 loss at the hands of Wolves.

Adjudged to have tripped Willian Jose in the area, David Luiz was given his marching orders, conceded a penalty - and for some supporters - the time has come to start looking for his replacement.

Gabriel Magalhaes came on in the second half against Wolves to fill the void vacated by his compatriot as Arteta was forced into a tactical reshuffle at Molineux Stadium.

However, despite the Brazilian's solid start to life at Arsenal, he's not who some supporters think is the perfect replacement for David Luiz.

That honour falls to William Saliba who is spending the remainder of the season on loan in Ligue 1 with Nice and played 90 minutes in their 2-1 loss against Monaco on Wednesday night.

Even though the teenager was on the losing side, it would appear that fans saw enough to suggest that he will be ready to finally make his mark for the Gunners next season.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

In an interview with TV station TF1, Saliba has admitted to being 'hurt' at the way he was treated by his parent club during the first half of the season.

"I really, really, really didn’t think that I would be transferred for €30m," he said. "To think that I would arrive, where people were expecting a lot from me, the fans excited about me and you find yourself in the reserves, play zero - nothing in the Europa League or the [Premier] League.

"I was in the squad once in the League Cup. It hurt me, it affected me. I don’t think I left too early. When you feel ready you have to go. These things happen. I believe in myself."
