Arsenal fans have a brilliant Troy Deeney theory ahead of Watford visit on the final day

It will be a damp end to the Premier League season for Arsenal.

Defeat at Aston Villa means the Gunners can't finish in the top six, thus meaning they must beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium next month to ensure they are playing Europa League football next season.

A rather disappointing 2019/20 campaign will draw to a close at home to Watford on Sunday afternoon.

But is there still something to play for?

Well, there's a theory amongst Arsenal supporters that the motivation against the Hornets should be to relegate Troy Deeney.

This is in relation to what the Watford captain said about the Gunners a few seasons ago.

"I've heard Wenger's already blaming [the penalty] as the reason for why they lost," Deeney said. "Well, I'm not going to be one to tell Mr Wenger about himself, but there's a reason that they lost and it wasn't because of one penalty.

"I have to watch what I say, but it's [having] a bit of cojones, is what I'll say. Whenever I play against Arsenal, I'll go up and think 'let me whack the first one and see who wants it.'

"I came on today and jumped up with [Per] Mertesacker -- I didn't even have to jump, actually -- I nodded it down, the crowd gets up: 'Yeah we've got somebody who can win it', and they all just backed off."

So as fate would have it, Arsenal fans could have the last laugh as victory against Watford will relegate the Hornets.

The prospect of this has cheered up supporters following the defeat at Villa Park as some have even gone as far to suggest they lost just so they could send Deeney's side down.
