Arsenal fans furious as Fred avoids red card for Man Utd despite Nicolas Pepe's sending off

Arsenal fans are furious this evening over a refereeing decision involving Manchester United.

United are in Champions League action this evening against PSG with qualification for the knockout stage yet to be sealed for either side.

And during the game, there was a flashpoint involving Man United midfielder Fred, who appeared to headbutt, or at least shove his head into Leandro Paredes' head.

The incident was reviewed on the pitchside monitor by referee Daniele Orsato and even so, Fred was only given a yellow card for his troubles despite footage showing a clear shove of the head from the Brazilian.

And that has left Arsenal fans furious having watched winger Nicolas Pepe get sent off for a very similar incident in the Premier League recently.

During the Gunners' goalless draw with Leeds United at Elland Road, Pepe, fed up of being pulled and hassled by his marker, lashed out and headbutted Ezgjan Alioski.

The referee on that occasion, Anthony Taylor, didn't see the initial incident but after one glance at the pitchside monitor, he sent off Pepe, handing the Ivorian a three-match ban in the process.

Arsenal fans could have little complaints about that decision, but they are not happy with the inconsistency in officiating, stunned over the decision not to send Fred off for a similar outburst.

Here is what they have had to say on Twitter.

The Gunners did not appeal Pepe's red card, which was deemed to be the right decision by most.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said after the ten-men held on for a draw at Elland Road that Pepe's actions were 'unacceptable' on his winger's part.

Man United boss Solskjaer will, no doubt, be asked to comment on his player's actions after the game, and it will be interesting to see whether he has a similar verdict even though Fred managed to dodge a sending off.
