Arsenal supporters have taken to social media after reports that a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar is in doubt.
The Gunners have been locked in talks with the Ligue 1 side in a bid to land Aouar before the transfer window shuts next week, with a fee yet to be agreed for the Lyon captain.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has hinted that Aouar could leave the club this summer - but has set a deadline of Friday night for any potential outgoings.
"From Friday evening, when Rudi [Garcia] will choose his squad vs Marseille, there will be no departures," said Aulas.
"We could see ourselves lose two players."
A first offer for the 22-year-old was rejected and although Arsenal are preparing to return with an improved bid, according to ESPN, Arsenal's hopes of landing Aouar are fading with a breakthrough still not made.
It is claimed that Arsenal could turn their attentions to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as an alternative, with the Italy international repeatedly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly admirers, with contact made with the Blues over a potential loan deal, according to Telefoot.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the 28-year-old, who was dropped for Chelsea's 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League last weekend.
Some Gunners supporters, however, were not happy with the links and took to Twitter to vent their frustration.
One fan tweeted: "Chelsea have never sold us a good player, not once," whilst another wrote: "Not a conversation I’d have .. waste of money. If you can’t get Aouar don’t bother, we have enough middle of road deadwood in midfield."
A third said: "Left it this late to sign only Jorginho, if that happens Edu needs to leave."
Ahead of Arsenal's Premier League clash against Sheffield United, Arteta said he was confident the Gunners would do all they could to land their key targets.
“I am very confident with what we are trying to do internally," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference.
"The clarity from everyone in the club most importantly to get balance in the squad."
Referring the Aouar negotiations, he added: "I’m afraid I can’t give any update.”
When asked whether he would be happy if Arsenal failed to add to their squad, Arteta said: “I am very happy because the way we are acting around the market and the squad, the link between myself, Edu and the board is really good.
"After, in a deal you have three or four parties involved but I’m really happy with the link at the moment.
"We are trying our maximum, full support from the owners. With what we have, believe me, we will try our best.”
