Arsenal fans cannot believe Unai Emery's claims about Shkodran Mustafi after Palace defeat

Shkodran Mustafi endured another poor day at the office for Arsenal in their 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

After Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, and a shock 4-0 loss for Manchester United against Everton, the Gunners had the perfect chance to steal a march in the race for a top four place.

However, they were left to count the cost of missing a golden opportunity, in large part due to the defensive errors of Mustafi.

The 27-year-old, who moved to north London from Valencia for £35million in 2016, failed to mark Christian Benteke as the Belgian scored his first league goal in 358 days.

The unacceptable moment that Shkodran Mustafi showed he has no right to a future at Arsenal

Mesut Ozil found an equaliser for the Gunners only for Mustafi to allow Wilfried Zaha in to make it 2-1 to the visitors. He was also cuplable as James McArthur grabbed a third.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found another goal for Arsenal before the final whistle but it wasn't enough, and all eyes were on Mustafi for his failings at the back that ruined hopes of a victory at the Emirates.

After the game, Unai Emery was questioned on the defender’s performance.

"In all the season I think he is being consistent," said the Spaniard, much to the bemusement of supporters.

'He'll cost us top four!' - Shkodran Mustafi hammered by Arsenal fans for Crystal Palace display

"We cannot speak about the players individually. Sometimes he plays very well, sometimes he doesn't do brilliant.

"I prefer to speak about the consistency in the season."

It’s fair to say Arsenal fans agree with Emery on Mustafi’s consistency - just not in the sense that he meant it.
