Arsenal fans can't believe what Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did against Benfica

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a moment to forget against Benfica.

Fresh from scoring his first-ever Premier League hat-trick in the Gunners' 4-2 win over Leeds United last weekend, the 31-year-old kept his place in attack for the Europa League round of 32 first-leg tie.

Leading the line with support from the midfield trio of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Martin Odegaard, Aubameyang was looking to notch his second goal of the competition and continue his recent good run of form.

And he should have done so with the biggest chance of a first-half that somehow finished goalless at the Stadio Olimpico.

After Dani Ceballos split the Benfica defence with a brilliant pass to pick out the run of Hector Belleri, the Gunners defender rolled the ball across the face of goal.

Aubameyang looked a certainty to score with all of the goal to aim at.

However, to the surprise of many, the Gunners skipper steered an effort wide of the target and didn't look too happt with himself at failing to even hit the target.

As expected, this miss garnered a massive response from Arsenal fans on social media.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

Not only were the Gunners supporters in shock over the miss, but BT Sport pundits Glenn Hoddle and Martin Keown were also amazed that the Gabon international didn't break the deadlock.

"I can't understand for the life of me how Aubameyang has missed that, Hoddle said. "You can't ask for a better chance, you've just scored a hat-trick at the weekend."

Meanwhile, Martin Keown put the miss down to a lack of focus from Aubameyang.

"You think he's on a high, can't wait for the opportunity and it's just a lack of concentration really," the Gunners legend added.
