Arsenal fans can't believe what Lacazette, Maitland-Niles and Luiz did against Brentford

Arsenal were back in action on Wednesday, this time in a losing effort against Brentford.

After putting six past Charlton Athletic last weekend, the Gunners welcomed another Championship outfit to the Emirates Stadium as they stepped up preparations ahead of the big Premier League return.

And whilst Mikel Arteta will have been pleased about his squad improving their fitness levels, he's bound to have some concerns about his side's defending.

The impact of Arsenal's lost match-day income

The other positives were that Joe Willock was once again on the scoresheet, as was Alexandre Lacazette.

However, the Frenchman was at fault for one of Brentford's goals in a 3-2 defeat for the north London outfit.

Attempting to shield the ball deep in his own half, Lacazette needlessly lost possession and a few seconds later Emiliano Martinez was picking the ball out of his net.

Although, the Gunners no.9 wasn't the only player who looked extremely rusty against the Bees.

David Luiz must take his fair share of the blame for Brentford's first goal as he took on far too many players, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles' mistake resulted in the winner for the visitors.

Judging by the reaction on social media, fans are very angry with the aforementioned trio - even if it's just a friendly.

Interestingly, speculation exists around all three players. Alexandre Lacazette has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, with suggestions of a swap deal involving Thomas Partey doing the rounds.

Luiz's contract at the Emirates expires at the end of this month and has been talking about returning to Benfica.

According to The Athletic Maitland-Niles is a potential candidate to be sold when the transfer window reopens in order to raise funds so that Arteta can bolster his squad in other areas.
