Jamie Carragher has appeared to question Unai Emery’s decision to take off Mesut Ozil against Liverpool.
Ozil made his first start for the Gunners in over a month after being named in Emery's side to take on Jurgen Klopp’s team in the Carabao Cup fourth round tie at Anfield.
The 31-year-old, who is the north London club’s best-paid player, hadn’t featured for his side since the third round win over Nottingham Forest.
With the playmaker going on to impress in the 65 minutes he played, especially his role in the Gunners’ fourth goal that really caught the eye.
James Milner’s backpass was pounced on by Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but after a heavy touch, Ozil quickly retrieved the ball before playing in the 22-year-old with an outrageous backheel.
"What about this from Mesut Ozil,” Gunners legend Alan Smith on commentary. “He does really well to keep it in with the most delightful drag-back. He knows exactly where Maitland-Niles is. It's been that kind of night for Ozil."
But just over 10 minutes later and Ozil was replaced by Matteo Guendouzi, with the Sky Sports pundit taking to Twitter and tweeting: “Ozil off??!!!!”
And Arsenal fans were quick to tweet in agreement with the former Liverpool man.
Arsenal are next in action when they take on Wolves in the Premier League at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
