Arsenal fans all make the same joke as they fume at Unai Emery's team selection

Arsenal fans were convinced they were on the receiving end of a late April Fool's Day joke when their starting line-up was announced ahead of Monday's game against Newcastle .

Unai Emery opted to leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the starting line-up whilst he stuck with out of form defender Shkodran Mustafi as part of their defence.

There was also a surprise but popular decision to hand outgoing midfielder Aaron Ramsey the captain's armband as he started along with Mesut Ozil.

The selection was not popular with Gunners fans, however, who all demanded to see the "real team" after the line-up was tweeted out by the official club account.

"Bit of a late April Fool's joke lads, now show us the real line-up," one fan wrote.

Another said: "It is April Fool's, not surprised to see Mustafi in there, it's his day to shine" whilst urged them to "release the real line-up without Mustafi".

One fan added: "I thought April Fool's ended at mid day" and others declared it was a "Great April Fool's joke" as they demanded a different team to be revealed.

The visit of Newcastle to the Emirates is a crucial fixture for the Gunners as they look to take a major step towards finishing in the Premier League top four.

Why Arsenal star could be forced into early international retirement

A win would see the Gunners leapfrog Tottenham and Manchester United to jump up to third in the table after the weekend's fixtures.

It is not the first time Emery has opted for a team selection that has baffled fans, but he was vindicated against Tottenham in the North London derby after coming under fire and supporters will be hoping to be proved wrong again.
