Arsenal face huge Brendan Rodgers fee as former Celtic boss sits high on Gunners' shortlist

If Arsenal wish to prise Brendan Rodgers away from Leicester City it will cost them £14m in compensation, according to reports.

The Telegraph states the Foxes inserted the figure into Rodgers' contract when they persuaded him to leave Celtic .

Leicester owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha paid £9m to remove the the double Treble winning boss from his contract and they would now expect a further £5m if he is to depart.

Given the exorbitant sums that change hands at the top table of English football, such a fee may represent good value for money as the North London club attempt to bounce back from a poor start to the season under Unai Emery .

The Spaniard was sacked yesterday after numerous problems including an apparent failure to communicate effectively in English.

Rodgers, a slick communicator with vast experience of the British game would have no such difficluties.

And at yesterday's Leicester City press conference, he refused to rule out a departure from the King Power stadium.

He said: "It's natural that there are links. If you are doing okay people want to take you away from something you enjoy. If you're not it doesn't matter.

"There's always a number of names. We're at the beginning of something here. My relationship with the people here and the players is very strong. We think we are starting something exciting.

"Arsenal is a fantastic club. One of the greats in this country. If the people at Arsenal have moved Unai on, I'm sure they have an idea of who they want to bring in.

"There's disappointment whenever a coach loses his job. Unai has proved himself over a number of years. I have sympathy for him."
