The north Londoners are believed to have made a bid in the region of £40million which was given short shrift by the Eagles who want at least double that sum.

Arsenal have a limited budget after failing to secure Champions League football for next season and are also having trouble financing a deal for Celtic's Kieran Tierney.

Real Madrid's Gareth Bale is another option for Bayern but the former Tottenham star's wages are likely to be a stumbling block.

Bale has been told in no uncertain terms that he does not have a future at the Bernabeu.

And Bayern midfielder Thiago Alcantara would welcome the Welshman to Bavaria.
