Arsenal: Fabio Vieira set for Club World Cup chance as transfer decision looms

Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira will be part of Porto’s squad for the Club World Cup this month.

Vieira joined Porto on loan last summer after Arsenal agreed to let the 25-year-old leave in search of more regular starts.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals in 39 appearances for Porto and he is now set to represent them at the Club World Cup.

Standard Sport understands that the terms of Vieira’s loan allow for him to represent Porto at the Club World Cup.

Porto have been drawn in a group with Al Ahly, Palmeiras and Inter Miami, meaning they will come up against Lionel Messi.

Vieira, who joined Arsenal three years ago for over £30million, has an uncertain future at the club after spending the season at Porto.

Reports in Portugal have suggested that Porto would be keen to keep the midfielder, having gone through their academy before he was sold to Arsenal.

Vieira playing at the Club World Cup would impact his pre-season with Arsenal, if Porto go deep in the competition.

The Club World Cup final is due to take place on July 13, which is just six days before the Gunners fly to Singapore for their pre-season tour.

Porto will kick off their campaign at the Club World Cup on Sunday night, when they take on Brazilian side Palmeiras at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

“It is always a great pleasure to represent the club of my heart,” said Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

“I am anxious for this Club World Cup to start so I can enjoy the competition. First, we have the goal of getting past the group stage.

“We came here with the intention of thinking game by game, always with our feet firmly on the ground and determined to give a good image of the club.”
