Arsenal 'eyeing free transfers and swap deals' as a result of coronavirus crisis

Arsenal are on the look out for swap deals and free transfers as they consider their recruitment in the current financial climate.

The north London club urged their players to take a pay cut, of up to 12.5 per cent, as they look to negotiation the coronavirus pandemic.

A limited budget is set to be available meaning they will have to be wise about how they act in the market.

Mikel Arteta is approaching his first summer as Arsenal boss, although the dates of the transfer window are not confirmed with the season due to finish later than planned.

But the Spaniard will have to use his expertise when improving his Gunners squad with Willian already seen as a potential target, claims the Daily Mail.

The Chelsea winger is out of contract in a matter of months and his agent Kia Joorabchian is close to Arsenal chief Edu.

Swap deals are harder to negotiate given the need for both parties to agree.

Arsenal did feature in a recent high-profile deal though when Alexis Sanchez left for Manchester United with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading the other way.

Funds could yet be raised via the sale of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, despite the club wanting to retain their star striker.

The Gabon international is entering the final year of his contract and Arsenal are looking to offload players who could leave for nothing in 12 months time.

Former boss Unai Emery had his hands somewhat tied last summer due to budget restrictions and had to cleverly formulate deals.

Arteta though could be even more hamstrung financially with Arsenal's want to secure pay cuts underlining their situation.

They would be the first top flight club to agree on salary reductions although players have asked whether the money saved would be used on transfers.

Arsenal are hoping to qualify for Europe and players would be repaid their wages if they secured a Champions League place.
