Arsenal 'eyeing' £10m transfer for Nottingham Forest star after FA Cup performance

Arsenal are reportedly 'eyeing' a January move for on-loan Nottingham Forest wing-back Djed Spence after being 'alerted' by his performance against them in the FA Cup third round.

The 21-year-old was one of Steve Cooper 's standout performers at the City Ground last Sunday when Forest knocked out the competition's record winners thanks to a late Lewis Grabban winner.

Spence featured for the full 90 minutes on the right-hand flank and caught the eye of neutrals in the terrestrial televised match against a side sitting 5th in the Premier League.

The Middlesbrough loanee has made 23 appearances for the Reds since arriving on transfer deadline day last summer.

The Mirror reports Arsenal 's interest in Spence, whom they say Boro would value at around the £10 million mark.

It also adds that the north London side aren't alone in their interest as Italian sides Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, and Serie A league leaders Inter Milan are apparently 'watching developments closely'.

Southampton are also said to have 'been keeping tabs' on the player's performances this season.

Despite Spence being unable to play for a third side this season, the report adds that 'there is a growing expectation that something might happen in this window' as clubs 'do not want to miss out'.

Therefore, should any move to a third club be agreed by Boro this window then the player would need to be loaned back to either Teeside or Trentside otherwise the player would be forced to twiddle his thumbs until next season starts.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright described Spence's performance against the Gunners as 'unbelievable' and believes it is only a matter of time before the wing-back is playing in the Premier League. Wright also revealed that he told the player as much afterwards after being part of the punditry panel pitchside.
