Edu hints at squad restructuring for Arsenal
Arsenal Technical Director Edu has alluded to more work being done in the transfer market this summer, following the signing of Brazilian winger Willian. The 32-year-old joins on a three-year deal, making the short trip across London from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates’ Stadium.
Upon confirming the signing of the winger, Edu is quoted as saying , “To balance properly, we need to sell players, to buy players and that takes time, not just day and night.”
The former Arsenal midfielder turned director also claimed the club had “identified the needs” of the squad moving forward, hinting towards further additions. Edu also expressed his happiness at securing Willian for the next three seasons, adding “we’ve started a big process.”
Willian delight at Arsenal move
Brazilian international Willian has expressed his happiness at finally securing a cross-London transfer to Arsenal. The 32-year-old signed a three-year contract with the club, which had been his desire at Chelsea, however Arsenal are the club who have met his requests to remain in London for the following three years.
Willian said of his change of scenery, “I'm excited to start. I can't wait to go on the pitch and do my thing to help my team-mates and to help this club to shine again. That's what I want.”
The former Chelsea man discussed Arsenal’s potential, particularly under Mikel Arteta who the player clearly has a great deal of respect and admiration for. Willian also credited Arteta with being a major factor in his decision to choose Arsenal as his next destination.
