Arsenal evening headlines as van Persie makes transfer claim, 'next Ian Wright' proves quality

Here are the Arsenal evening headlines on Friday, December 11.

Van Persie's Chiellini admission

Former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has revealed he tried to get Arsene Wenger to sign Giorgio Chiellini to integrate "winning mentality" at the Emirates Stadium.

Van Persie spent eight years with the Gunners, but failed to win a Premier League title in that time - and has admitted his conversation with Wenger over Chiellini.

"At a given moment I felt called upon to say what Arsenal could do better in order to win the league," the Dutchman said in an interview on Kaj Gorgels' YouTube channel.

"I felt we lacked a winning mentality, and asked Arsene Wenger to sign Giorgio Chiellini.”

Hargreaves makes bold Gunners prediction

Owen Hargreaves believes Arsenal have a "good chance" of winning this season's Europa League following their faultless start.

The Gunners concluded their group stage campaign with a 4-2 win over Dundalk on Thursday evening - with Mikel Arteta 's side winning every match in the competition so far.

Hargreaves, when speaking on BT Sport, said: "I think Arsenal have a good chance of winning this competition."

Arsenal reached the final of the European tournament in the 2018/19 season, but were beaten by London rivals Chelsea in the decisive match.

'Next Ian Wright' has shown what he can do

Arsenal's 'next Ian Wright', Folarin Balogun, has once again shown his quality for Arteta's side - with the young striker netting twice and providing an assist in 60 minutes of action against Dundalk.

Gunners legend Martin Keown has heaped the praise on the 19-year-old, when speaking on BT Sport: "The way he linked up, that is a great turn. You try to compare, is it Andy Cole or Ian Wright?

"There is that sort of movement about him. I know those are big name players and if he can live up to that he will have some career.

"I just like the way he is always looking on the shoulder and his movement. The way he scores the goal, the way he comes onto it he is pointing, give me it, this is my moment."
