Arsenal evening headlines as third transfer is confirmed and Aubameyang absence explained

Here are your Arsenal headlines for Wednesday, January 27.

Wright's Saka wish

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is praying his former side don't lose Bukayo Saka to injury with the youngster racking up plenty of miles of late.

“When you consider Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe had to go off with cramp, that just indicates the amount of work they were doing,” Wright told Optus Sport.

“Saka, everybody is worried about him because he is so young and he has the weight of being expected to create for all of Arsenal – same with Smith Rowe and when Martinelli comes back – but they are doing it at the moment.

“Arsenal have to play with that intensity. They kept it simple, closed them down, got forward quicker, and they are able to punish teams.

“Smith Rowe went off with cramp today, you’re hoping Saka can stay fit, if anything happens to those guys, from a creative point of view, those are the guys that are pushing Arsenal forward alongside Thomas Partey (and) if anything happens to them it could start to stall again.”

Aubameyang explains absence

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has explained why he has missed Arsenal's last two fixtures after he pulled out of the squad to face Southampton in the FA Cup before missing the Premier League clash with the Saints.

"Hey guys. Thank you so much for all messages and calls over the last few days," his statement read.

"My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She is already much better now and I will be back home tonight.

"I'm more than grateful to the doctors and nurses for helping her get through this.

"And of course thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I'm more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

"Thank you all again - I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from you all and I can't wait to be back."

Odegaard's highlights Arteta's role

Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard is now an Arsenal player after completing his loan deal today.

Upon completing his move, the Norway international spoke about Mikel Arteta's pivotal role in the transfer, telling Arsenal.com: "I spoke to him (Arteta) before coming here, of course.

"That was very important for me and he seems like a top manager and I liked his ideas, the way he sees football and also the way he is.

"He gave me a great feeling and that was important for me to come here. He was crucial."
