Arsenal evening headlines as Raul Sanllehi offers Thomas Partey salary boost, Aubameyang message

Here are the Arsenal evening headlines for Friday, July 3.

Partey offered wage hike

Arsenal have told Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey they will treble his wages if he moves to the Emirates this summer.

That is according to Spanish newspaper AS, which claims the Gunners are prepared to offer the Ghana international, whose current contract contains a £45million release clause, a lucrative deal in order to see off interest from Napoli.

The Serie A side are interested in Partey and could ask for the 27-year-old to be included as part of a swap deal for striker Arkadiusz Milik, who has been heavily linked with a switch to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Mikel Arteta on Thomas Partey and transfer plans

Arsenal urged to tie down Aubameyang

Out of contract in the summer of 2021, the future of Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been the subject of much speculation in recent months.

The Gunners have three options to take with the Gabon international: they either sell him this summer, lose him for nothing in 12 months time, or convince him to sign a new long-term deal with the club.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hopeful the latter scenario plays out and BBC pundit Alan Shearer has urged the club to make it happen.

“He’s a fantastic player and he’ll be key to what Arteta is trying to do at Arsenal,” he told Thursday’s Match of the Day.

“It’s imperative they keep him there. I know he’s got a year left on his contract but they want to and need to tie him down to a long contract.”

Gunners take social-media dig at Spurs

After Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss to Sheffield United yesterday (Thursday) evening, the Arsenal social media team were quick to add to their north London rivals’ misery.

Goals from Sander Berge, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie condemned Jose Mourinho’s side to a humbling defeat at Bramall Lane, a stadium at which only four days earlier the Gunners had clinched a 2-1 victory.

Highlights of Arsenal’s FA Cup quarter-final win against the Blades were uploaded to the club’s Facebook page this morning, and the caption posted alongside the video subtly but deliberately derided Tottenham.

It read: "It's not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Here's a reminder of how it's done.”

Spurs’ defeat coupled with Arsenal’s win over Norwich City means the clubs have swapped places in the Premier League table - Arteta’s side currently sit eighth after 32 matches with Tottenham behind in ninth.
