Arsenal evening headlines as Philippe Coutinho talks to start and AC Milan eye surprise deal

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Sunday, May 24.

Inter not interested in signing Aubameyang

Transfer speculation linking Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a move away from Arsenal continues, but Inter Milan are one club reportedly not interested.

The Gabon international has been prolific for the Gunners since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, scoring 61 goals in 97 appearances.

Inter are expected to enter the transfer market for a new striker this summer with star man Lautaro Martinez rumoured to be wanted by Barcelona, but according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A title challengers aren’t targeting Aubameyang’s signature.

“Dembelé, Aguero and Aubameyang are not on Inter’s list,” he told Calciomercato .

AC Milan interested in signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Meanwhile in Milan, Inter’s cross-city rivals are said to be tracking Ainsley Maitland-Niles ahead of a potential transfer this summer.

He’s made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, but The Athletic suggest he’ll be one of a number of players to leave the club when the transfer window reopens.

The Star on Sunday, via SempreMilan, have suggested that the Serie A fallen giants are interested, with incoming coach Ralf Rangnick looking to build a new-look squad when he takes over in the summer.

Maitland-Niles has fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta, having previously featured regularly under his predecessor Unai Emery. The 22-year-old’s last Premier League start came in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United in mid-January.

Arsene Wenger makes Arsenal return admission

Arsene Wenger says he won’t return to the Emirates Stadium, two years on from his departure as Arsenal manager.

"Would I return to the Emirates Stadium? I always said to myself that I would be leaving Arsenal completely,” Wenger told beIN Sports .

"That's the decision I made."

The 70-year-old is the most decorated manager in the club’s history, leading the Gunners to three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields, but he’s not been back for a game since leaving in 2018.

"At the moment, I am dedicating myself to my work at FIFA,” he added.

"Fifa has responsibility for 211 federations and the big problem is being efficient. I’m not saying I’m not missing competition, but I’m trying to be efficient in this area."

Coutinho talks

Arsenal are preparing to begin talks to sign Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.

The Brazilian midfielder is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona, but the Bundesliga giants will not take up their option to sign the playmaker on a permanent basis.

This has seen the former Liverpool star linked with a return to the Premier League, with Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle and Arsenal all touted as potential destinations.

And according to French outlet Le10 Sport, the Gunners could now steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

The report claims that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta 'dreams' of linking up with the midfielder at The Emirates and sees Coutinho as the ideal addition to his squad.
