Arsenal evening headlines as Partey impresses BBC pundit and Collymore blasts Gunners

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Tuesday, November 3.

Partey form a worry for Spurs - Crooks

Match of the Day pundit Garth Crooks believes Thomas Partey’s impressive start to life at Arsenal is cause for concern among Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Partey, a £45million signing from Atletico Madrid, has made an immediate impression for the Gunners, producing a commanding performance alongside Mohamed Elneny in midfield to help Mikel Arteta’s side beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

And Crooks reckons Partey will play a major role if Arsenal are to finish above Tottenham in the league for the first time since the 2015/16 season.

"That was some performance by Thomas Partey at Old Trafford," Crooks wrote in his BBC column.

"The Ghana international looks fit, strong and up for any battle - while his ability to intercept and break up the opposition's play on Sunday was outstanding.

Mikel Arteta impressed by how well Gabriel and Partey have settled in

"Partey, along with Mohamed Elneny, dominated Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

"I've not seen an Arsenal midfield duo dominate the centre of the park at Old Trafford so effectively since Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit.

"This is very worrying if you are a Spurs fan."

Arsenal injury news ahead of Molde clash

Arsenal boss Arteta has no fresh injury concerns ahead of his side’s Europa League group stage game with Molde on Thursday evening, but a number of first-team players remain sidelined.

David Luiz, who has missed the last two games with a thigh problem, is not expected to return for the visit of the Norwegians to the Emirates Stadium, while fellow centre-backs Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers are continuing their rehabilitation from serious injuries.

Striker Gabriel Martinelli is making encouraging progress in his comeback from a serious knee injury, but is unlikely to feature until towards the end of the year.

Arteta is expected to rotate his squad - as he did against Dundalk - ahead of Sunday’s league game at home to Aston Villa.

Arsenal and United like ‘jellyfish’ - Collymore

Stan Collymore does not believe Arsenal have the ‘bottle’ to ‘achieve something’ this year despite their impressive win over Manchester United.

Sunday’s win at Old Trafford leaves the Gunners just four points adrift of leaders Liverpool having already travelled to the Reds, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Writing in his weekly column for The Mirror, the former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker described United v Arsenal as a ‘clash of the lightweights’.

“Sunday’s clash between Manchester United and Arsenal was a clash of the lightweights,” wrote Collymore.

“Both will suck their fans into believing they can achieve something, but both have the spine and bottle of a jellyfish.”
