Arsenal evening headlines as Mikel Arteta sends Klopp message, Aubameyang's Barcelona hope

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for July 14

Aubameyang ’hasn’t lost hope’ over Barcelona move

Arsenal top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still hasn’t given up on securing a move to Barcelona.

The striker has been linked with the Catalan club in the past, and Mundo Deportivo (via the Express ) reports that not only does the Gabonese forward remain keen on a move, but his representatives held talks with Barca earlier this year.

Barcelona are understood to still be prioritising Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez as they look to bolster their front-line, but Aubameyang has yet to commit his future to Arsenal at what he has described as a “turning point” in his career.

The former Borussia Dortmund man, who has one year left on his current contract, has scored 52 goals in 82 league games for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta sheds some light on how he can learn from Jurgen Klopp’s example

As Arsenal prepare to take on champions Liverpool, manager Mikel Arteta has had a chance to take stock of his opponents’ development over the last few years.

Liverpool finished below Arsenal in 2015/16, the season in which Klopp arrived at Anfield in October, but have since enjoyed a remarkable rise.

And Arteta spoke of the work done by his counterpart in making that rise a reality.

“It took them some time to rebuild the club and a game model that suited the coach and then they started to recruit a specificity in every position which completely changed the club,” Arteta said in the lead-up to the game.

“Many decisions have to be right. How much connection you have to create with your fans to create the full package, and then it’s football.

“Certainly, it’s something to look at but we have to do it our way with our resources. We are heading to be the best, that is my objective.”

Guendouzi is good enough for the top two in the league, Collymore claims

Matteo Guendouzi’s time at Arsenal might seemingly be up, but Stan Collymore maintains the midfielder has the quality to play at a higher level.

The French youngster hasn’t played since the defeat to Brighton on 20 June, missing out on the squad entirely for Sunday’s North London Derby, and looks like a leading candidate to move on this summer as Arsenal look to raise funds for their planned summer transfer business.

Guendouzi’s destination remains unclear, but former Liverpool striker Collymore believes his former club - as well as Manchester City - should make a move for the former Lorient man.

"Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp might feel he’s not good enough for Manchester City or Liverpool, but I’d be inclined to disagree, because being around good players he could thrive,” Collymore wrote in his Mirror column.

“I’m not saying he’d get into either’s first XI now. But he could play for either club, the talent is that obvious.”

Guendouzi, who joined Lorient from PSG’s academy, has played more than 80 games in two seasons for Arsenal since arriving as one of Unai Emery’s first signings in 2018.
