Arsenal evening headlines as medical expert explains Partey's injury and Ozil impresses

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Tuesday, February 16.

An 'unprecedented' workload

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is currently on the sidelines again after sustaining a muscular injury.

football.london sought the expert opinion of Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT to find out what exactly Partey's injury problem consists of.

"Partey grabbed at the hamstring area prior to being subbed off and I actually commented on this. In terms of the hamstring injury, it can be a sensitive injury because of the load placed on it but sounds like a grade one injury," he said.

He continued: "First, we have the shortened turnaround to this season which means less recovery time.

"Secondly, a player transitioning to a new team and likely trying to make a good impression resulting in higher exertion & intensity. Thirdly, the player transitioning to a higher intensity league.

"Fourthly, once he picks up the first injury, now there’s an inherent risk for re-injury and fluctuating fitness levels which then increase that risk even further."

Dr Brar added that this season's workload is "unprecedented" due to a congested campaign.

Ozil's first league start

Former Turkey midfielder Ridvan Dilmen has waxed lyrical about the work-rate former Arsenal man Mesut Ozil produced on his first league start for Fenerbahce on Saturday.

Although he didn't score or claim an assist, he did manage 81 minutes before being replaced by Mert Haken Yandas, which is an impressive figure for a player who had not played for so long.

"I did not expect Mesut Ozil to do so much. It is not easy," said Dilmen, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

"You play football for the first time after 10 months. A team was not built around Mesut, Mesut came to this team.

"I think the next season will be much better because his contract will be 3.5 years. Despite this, I respect his devotion."

Alleged lockdown breach

Arsenal are investigating a possible breach of coronavirus lockdown rules by striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

That is according to a report by The Sun, who claim the striker has breached the current regulations in place to get a new tattoo on his left hand.

The 31-year-old has been pictured showing off his new tattoo on the Instagram account of Spanish tattoo artist Alejandro Nicolas Bernal.

It is reported that the footage was posted online just days after the striker had been given time off by the club to visit his mother, who was ill, in France.

With the UK still under a strict national lockdown, forcing non-essential retail and hospitality to keep their doors closed, all mobile and static tattoo parlours must also remain shut.

However, in the footage that has been shared, neither Aubameyang or Bernal, who is based in Barcelona, were wearing a mask during the process of the tattoo being completed.

Arsenal are now wanting to find out if their club captain has compromised their biosecure bubble.

An Arsenal spokesman said: “We will speak to the player about this matter and establish what has taken place.”
