Arsenal evening headlines as James Rodriguez transfer eyed, Ian Wright reacts to two deals

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Sunday, July 5.

Arteta steps out of Guardiola’s shadow

Mikel Arteta is beginning to show why he is so highly-rated by Pep Guardiola and a good run of form is seeing him step out of the Manchester City manager’s shadow.

Arsenal’s impressive 2-0 win over Wolves signalled a fourth consecutive win in all competitions with the Gunners mounting a late charge for European places.

As James Benge writes, though, it is the minute details of Arteta’s management that prove the most fascinating part of Arsenal’s upturn in form. More than anything, it might just show that Arteta is the man to take the club forwards in an increasingly challenging situation.

The Arsenal boss told football.london that a clear benefit of playing behind closed doors is that he can relay instructions to his players, something that wouldn’t be possible with 60,000 fans in the stadium.

Therefore, such an environment is allowing him to get his message across to his players and, in turn, show developments to the team’s system and results.

Wright reacts to Arsenal wonderkids signing new deals

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has voiced his praise for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli after the paid committed their long-term futures to the Gunners this week.

Both aged 18, the duo are viewed as exciting prospects in North London and players that can develop into crucial players under Arteta.

Saka confirmed just that on Saturday with his first league goal for the club and Wright had nothing but positive things to say about the youngsters.

“I’m delighted for him, a fantastic week for Arsenal with Saka signing, Gabriel Martinelli signing, in talks with Aubameyang,” Wright said.

“The way we are playing is very encouraging, the finish from Saka was beautifully guided.

"He’s just brilliant to see.”

Arsenal interested in cut-price Real Madrid star

Real Madrid want-away James Rodriguez is reportedly set to depart the Bernabeu this summer with Arsenal interested in acquiring his services.

That is according to Marca, via Metro, who report that the 28-year-old will be sold at an affordable price in the next transfer window because Real Madrid want to avoid losing him for free next summer.

The report suggests that the Spanish giants would be willing to sell Rodriguez for as little as £22.5million which could see Arsenal make a move for the talented playmaker.

A number of Premier League clubs are said to be interested in signing the Colombia international with Manchester United, Everton and Wolves also tracking his situation.
