Arsenal evening headlines as Gunners suffer £30m transfer blow and Bukayo Saka contract stance

Gunners target could snub move to the Emirates

Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard might turn down a possible move to Arsenal, according to team-mate Christoper Julien.

The 22-year-old, who had scored 27 goals in 45 appearances this season before football came to a halt, has been linked with a £30 million switch to the Gunners.

But there is a belief, for those at Celtic, that he is content to remain at the club.

“Odsonne is a good player and one day he will have a lot of clubs interested in him," Julien told the Daily Record.

“But he’s in a really good place right now with Celtic. He’s done some unbelievable stuff and I really hope that he’ll stay here.

“I enjoy playing with him and I want him to stay for as long as he can. That would be incredible for everyone at Celtic.

“He’s in a really good place. It’s so difficult just now with this situation. People speak about transfers but who knows when football will be back?

“After that, all the other stuff can happen. But don’t worry, I’m sure Odsonne is happy where he is.

“I’m sure he will stay. He is silent, he hides what he is feeling and he’s someone who controls his emotions.

“But he’s a really good guy, trust me. He is quite happy at Celtic.”

Arsenal’s stance on Saka contract talks clear

Arsenal are 'desperate' to keep hold of Bukayo Saka amid reports of interest from Borussia Dortmund.

The Mirror claim the teenager is a target for the Bundesliga club as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho.

No talks have yet taken place between Saka’s representatives and Arsenal since February.

The club hope to agree a new deal with the player, who signed his first professional contract in 2018.

Arteta offered a confident assessment of the situation last month, saying: "The club is doing what it has to do and is having conversations. We'll get it resolved."

Lineker gives verdict on decision that could impact Arsenal

Former England striker Gary Lineker has reacted to the the Dutch FA's decision to officially cancel the Eredivisie season with no league champions or relegation, an approach that could set a precedent for other leagues in Europe.

No division has yet to resume, although there are plans for the Bundesliga to restart behind closed doors next month.

And Lineker has revealed his concern at the prospect of the season potentially being voided.

"May well prove to be the only way," the former Tottenham player wrote on Twitter. "Hardly the fairest way, though?"

UEFA held a crunch meeting on Thursday morning to decide the fate of the 2019-20 campaign, expressing their preference for seasons to be completed but stated that if it's not an option, qualification to their competitions should be based on ‘sporting merit'.
