Arsenal evening headlines as Gunners handed Isco transfer boost and Arteta hits back

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines on Friday, December 18.

Isco allowed to leave

Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Isco, according to Spanish news outlet Sport.

The report from Spain claims that the 28-year-old is allowed to leave the Santiago Bernabeu next month, as he is not part of Zinedine Zidane's plans.

However, the Gunners could face competition from Everton, Juventus, Sevilla and AC Milan for the Los Blancos playmaker. It is not clear what sort of fee Real Madrid would be demanding for Isco, who has featured 10 times in all competitions so far this season.

Mikel Arteta previews Everton vs Arsenal

Owen's prediction for Everton clash

Michael Owen believes Arsenal will manage to pick up a point against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners are without a Premier League victory since the start of last month where Mikel Arteta's side were 1-0 winners against Manchester United.

Owen said on BetVictor: "It's now six matches since Arsenal won a Premier League match. 15th in the table is simply not good enough and unless Mikel Arteta starts winning football matches, his tenure at the Emirates could be short lived.

"Interestingly, there have been under 2.5 goals scored in Everton's last four Premier League games. Arsenal have seen under 2.5 goals in their last four away league matches. So, the stats certainly point to a low scoring affair and I agree.

"I think both managers would take a point here, so I'm going to side with a scoring draw at Goodison."

Arteta on challenging year as Gunners boss

Arsenal manager Arteta believes 2020 has been 'one of the most challenging' in the club's history.

Arteta was appointed as the Gunners boss a year on Sunday, and he has been reflecting on a very difficult last 12 months, with the boss now under big pressure following the poor start to the season.

The Spanish coach said: "Well, I think it’s been one of the most challenging years of the club’s history. For many, many different reasons.

"I think that we have made a lot of progress and we have implement a lot of positives here that have worked really, really well.

"We have gone through structural changes all across the club that obviously has shaken the club big time. I would say the highlights of that year is the two trophies that we won together.

The Arsenal managed continued: "And the most disappointing thing is that we haven’t had our fans with us to take us through this difficult moment."
