Arsenal evening headlines as Gunners eye €40m January transfer after missing out on Szoboszlai

Here are the Arsenal evening headlines for Wednesday, November 11.

Calum Chambers reacts on Instagram after making his first Arsenal appearance in 317 days

Calum Chambers made his long-awaited return as Arsenal beat Gillingham in the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday evening.

The former Southampton youngster was replaced at half-time by Levi Laing and watched his teammates emerge victorious on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Clearly pleased with his efforts on the night the defender then took to social media to celebrate his return to action with the Gunners.

"The rehab road continues!," he wrote on Instagram.

"Pleased to get 45 minutes under my belt tonight."

The 25-year-old’s return will give Mikel Arteta greater options at the back. Currently, Arteta has the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, David Luiz, Rob Holding, and Shkodran Mustafi available to him.

RB Leipzig 'on the verge' of £17m transfer that is terrible news for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are set to miss out on the signing of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai, 20, is on the verge of joining RB Leipzig according to Sport Bild (per transfermarkt ) when the January transfer window opens.

The report states that the Hungarian international will cost Leipzig €20 million (£17m) plus add-ons as he becomes the 18th player to move from Salzburg to Leipzig since 2012.

Arsenal had been strongly linked with the midfielder earlier this year. A move to AC Milan looked close only for it to fall through at the eleventh hour.

That had spurred the Gunners on to make a move, but it would appear they have missed out on the chance to secure Szoboszlai.

Arsenal interested in RB Leipzig midfielder for €40m

Arsenal have a keen interest in RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku, according to reports.

The former Paris Saint-Germain youngster would cost the Gunners €40m, with SportBILD reporting that the club ‘are dealing’ with the player ahead of a move.

Nkunku has been in fine form for Leipzig since arriving in 2019 from PSG. He cost the club £11.7m and has produced six goals and 19 assists in 55 games.

His form has captured the interest of Mikel Arteta as he looks to improve their midfield options, while Lyon view him as a potential replacement for Memphis Depay.
