Arsenal left Chelsea and Juventus disappointed with transfer deadline day deal
Thomas Partey’s father has revealed Chelsea and Juventus hoped to sign his son before Arsenal completed a transfer deadline day deal for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.
The Gunners activated the £45 million release clause in Thomas’ contract with the Spanish club with just hours of the transfer window remaining, with the player completing a medical in Madrid before putting pen to paper.
Speaking to Joy News Online , Thomas’ father Jacob said: “We actually weren’t disturbed by anything because we hoped a bigger team will come for Partey.
“We were aware of the [other teams that were interested: Juventus, Chelsea and so forth. So about all these we knew God was with us. From that minute we started to dance to ‘Party after Party’.”
Performances of Arsenal players out on loan assessed over international break
It might be the international break, with a number of Arsenal players on duty with their national teams, but that doesn’t mean the club didn’t have players out on loan playing club football over the weekend.
With the EFL playing fixtures over the weekend, football.london’s Art De Roche has taken a closer look at how a number of Arsenal loanees fared.
Zech Medley featured for Gillingham in their 3-1 home win over Oxford United, while Trae Coyle was left on the bench for the Gills having failed to start any of their last five matches.
Zak Swanson was also selected on the bench for MVV Maastricht for a match against Go Ahead Eagles, with the Dutch club keen to ease him gently back into action after a spell out through injury.
Gabriel Martinelli is optimistic knee injury troubles are behind him
Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli has provided an update on his recovery from injury, expressing hope that the knee injuries that curtailed his 2019/20 season are behind him.
The Brazilian burst on to the scene for the Gunners last season, but suffered a knee injury in July which initially looked set to sideline him until the end of 2020. Now, however, Martinelli is hopeful of making a return to action before the end of the year.
“I’m feeling very well, I’m regaining confidence and I can feel my knee is better,” he told Arsenal’s official site . “After an injury like this you are kind of scared to force the knee again but the past couple of weeks it has been fine and soon I can start training with the ball.
“I think we have an excellent squad and along with Mikel’s forward thinking and winning mentality we can carry on doing well.
“We are playing well and training well, everyone wants to win and we are all giving everything. I believe this season is very promising. We won trophies last season and I believe we can win this season again and also qualify for the Champions League."
