Arsenal evening headlines as Gabriel Magalhaes set to decide next club and Coutinho update

Here are the latest Arsenal evening headlines for Wednesday August 19.

Arsenal target close to choosing next club

Arsenal target Gabriel Magalhaes is close to choosing his next club, according to fellow countryman and former Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte. While Napoli are also moving for the young Brazilian defender, it appears that Fonte has had a word in Magalhaes’ ear about the merits of a move to England.

“The club has allowed him to speak with other clubs and he is in the process of moving,” Fonte told talkSPORT .

“To be quite honest. It’s just about him choosing which club, which is a great position to be in. He just needs to choose where he wants to go, and they’re all good clubs, so that’s fantastic.

“Everybody’s dream is to play in the Premier League and he’s been asking me questions about the Premier League and asking questions about clubs in the Premier League, so I tried to give him the best and honest opinion.

Barca president delivers Coutinho update

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has delivered an update on the future of Arsenal target and former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian midfielder has spent the past season on loan at Bayern Munich and his future at the Nou Camp remains in doubt under the new management of Ronald Koeman.

"The head coach will make the decision," said Bartomeu. "If he wants him to continue, next year he will play with us."

Coutinho's agent, Kia Joorabchian, is closely linked with Arsenal director Edu, and so Gunners fans may hope that Coutinho is surplus to Koeman’s requirements and might fancy a move to north London.

Wenger gives updates on Holland job

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied reports linking him to the Netherlands job following Ronald Koeman’s departure to Barcelona.

Reports suggested that Wenger might replace Koeman and take charge of the Oranje, but the Frenchman – who has not managed a club since he left Arsenal in 2018 - was quick to dismiss such talk.

"I believe there were some reports saying that I offered my availability to take the job, but I am not available," Wenger told beIN Sports.

"I work at FIFA and I work very hard and I didn't speak to anybody. I don't know where that news came from."
