Arsenal evening headlines as Gabriel delivers verdict on Saliba and potential £35m windfall

Here are the Arsenal evening headlines on Friday, September 4.

Gabriel praises 'talented' Saliba

New Arsenal signing Gabriel Magalhaes has given his verdict on fellow centre-back William Saliba following his £25m move from Lille this week.

The 22-year-old’s arrival marks another step in Mikel Arteta’s attempts to rebuild the club’s defence.

And the Gunners boss will likely intend to field a partnership of Gabriel and Saliba, 19, in the coming seasons.

Gabriel: a transfer worthy of excitement

"I know [Saliba] is a talented young player and if he is joining Arsenal it is because of his quality,” Gabriel told Arsenal.com . “We have a few friends in common and I did play against him before.

"He is a great player and I am sure we will get along very well."

Leicester transfer could play part in PSG’s Bellerin chase

Leicester’s signing of Timothy Castagne from Atalanta could have a knock-on effect in Paris Saint-Germain’s attempts to lure Hector Bellerin to France.

The Belgian right-back had been linked with a move to the Ligue 1 champions, who are seeking a replacement for Thomas Meunier following his switch to Borussia Dortmund.

But confirmation of his move to Leicester means PSG are still in need of a player to fill the role.

They could still turn their attention solely to Bellerin, having made an opening bid of £25m.

The Spaniard is rumoured to be open to a move, though PSG may have to pay as much as £35m.

For Arsenal and Arteta, selling Bellerin could provide the opportunity to strengthen other areas of the squad, with Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar linked with a move to the Emirates.

Arsenal discussed potential exchange deal for Partey

Arsenal reportedly held discussions with Atletico Madrid in July over a deal to sign midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghanaian international is believed to be a top target for the Gunners, though negotiations are ongoing as the new season approaches.

Atletico have demanded that Arsenal pay Partey’s £45m release clause, but back in July there were attempts to come to a more creative agreement.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Matteo Guendouzi and Alexandre Lacazette were brought up in conversations with Atletico over the Partey transfer.

"For sure they spoke with Atletico Madrid,” Romano told YouTuber Lee Gunner. "It was during the meeting they had for Thomas, the first time it was in July.

"They spoke about Matteo Guendouzi and they spoke also about Lacazette.

"We will have to wait a bit to see about this situation because it will also depend on what will happen to other clubs if Atletico Madrid will sell for example Diego Costa and what will happen with Luis Suarez."
