Arsenal evening headlines as Europa League squad revealed and David Luiz appeal decision

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Wednesday, February 2nd.

Europa League squad revealed

Arsenal have named their squad for the knockout stages of the Europa League, with the Gunners poised to tackle Benfica in the Round of 32 stage this month.

Mikel Arteta needed to make changes from the list for the group stages, which included Sead Kolasinac and Shkodran Mustafi - both of whom moved to Schalke during the January transfer window.

Those places have been taken by new signings Mat Ryan and Martin Odegaard, following their capture in the mid-season window, but a big decision needed to be made.

Gabriel Martinelli was omitted from the squad for the group stages due to injury but his return has meant that he takes Runar Alex Runarsson's spot for the knockout stages.

David Luiz appeal

Arsenal intend to appeal the red card issued to David Luiz in Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat to Wolves, football.london understands.

The Brazilian was handed his marching orders in the dying moments of the first half after accidentally tripping Willian Jose, resulting in a spot-kick that was dispatched by Ruben Neves.

VAR chose to uphold referee Craig Pawson's decision, meaning that as things stand the 33-year-old will be suspended for the Gunners trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.

However, Mikel Arteta's side have now signalled their intention to attempt to overturn the dismissal and subsequent ban.

Gabriel Magalhaes transfer details

Arsenal will be paying the transfer fee for Gabriel Magalhaes to Lille over the next three years, it has been revealed by Avai club president Francisco Battistotti.

The Brazilian side are due a percentage of the £27m fee due to Lille's purchase of the defender from South America, which will be paid by Arsenal in four instalments - the first of which has already taken place.

“Now in 2020, when they sold him to Arsenal, Lille negotiated to receive in four instalments. The club gave Avaí the percentage of the first. The second, third and fourth instalments would be paid between 2021 and 2023.

“We negotiated to anticipate. They had financial problems and Lille were sold to an investment fund. We continued to negotiate with this fund, which accepted the proposal and we are due to receive this week. This was the difficulty we had.”
