Arsenal evening headlines as Emery makes Ozil claim, Edouard transfer development

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Wednesday, January 13.

Edouard willing to wait

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is willing to wait until the summer window as he searches a transfer away from the Scottish champions.

Edouard has been a reported target for Arsenal in recent years and has been heavily linked with an exit as soon as this month.

However, Football Insider now reports that the 22-year-old is happy to remain with Celtic for another six months before making a switch in the summer, eyeing a transfer that is more conducive to his career development.

Edouard has 11 goals from 23 games in all competitions this season but was named the Scottish Player of the Year last season with a prolific 22 goals in 27 Scottish Premier League games.

Emery tried with Ozil

Unai Emery admitted that he 'tried' to get the best out of Mesut Ozil, who ended the Spaniard's tenure at the club at loggerheads with the former Arsenal manager.

Arsenal replaced Emery with Mikel Arteta a little over a year ago, and Emery has since moved to Villarreal, where he is enjoying a successful initial run. But in an exclusive interview with football.london, he admitted that he tried his best with Ozil.

"I worked for one and a half years with Mesut and tried to help him, support him and achieve the performances for the team with him," he said. "Now I don’t know what the problems are as I am very concentrated and focused with Villarreal.

"I follow every Arsenal match but I don’t know what the problems are with the team or the players. I can only speak about Mesut Ozil when I was with him there and I tried to achieve the best performances with him."

Martinelli makes return

Gabriel Martinelli returned to training ahead of Arsenal's Thursday night clash with Crystal Palace, despite initial fears that he would miss a significant period of time.

Martinelli was set to start against Newcastle United in the FA Cup on Saturday. He then rolled his ankle in the warm-up and missed the match entirely, with Mikel Arteta admitting afterwards that he feared for the Brazilian's long-term availability after just returning from a knee injury suffered in June.

Arteta said: "I went to the medical room and he was in tears. It didn't look good. He was in a lot of pain and we're going to have to see how he is. He was in pain so I imagine we're not going to have good news with him."

Thankfully for Arsenal and Martinelli, however, the scans returned positive and the 19-year-old is already back in training.
