Arsenal evening headlines as Edu's next transfer plan is confirmed, Arteta sent Balogun message

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Monday, February 8.

Balogun tipped to flourish

Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun is being backed to enjoy a promising and lucrative career regardless of whether or not he signs a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The striker, who was linked with both Sheffield United and Brentford during the summer transfer window last year, is yet to commit his future to the Gunners beyond the end of this season.

Mikel Arteta - the Arsenal manager - is keen to tie the youngster down to a new contract but no breakthrough has yet been made.

But Arsenal ought to do all they can in an effort to keep him if former midfielder Steve Morrow's assessment of the striker is anything to go by.

Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal: Full Mikel Arteta press conference

Morrow told The Times : "I hope he can make the right decision and then figure out what’s best for him at this stage of his career.

"He’s got great physical qualities, can lead the line very well, holds the ball up very well, brings other players into play, and is probably as good a finisher as Eddie [Nketiah].

"He’s got tremendous qualities, a great kid and a great family."

How Arsenal could line-up without Partey

After being forced off injured with a muscle problem against Aston Villa on Saturday, Thomas Partey will be desperate to return against Leeds United this weekend.

With just over 14 minutes of the clash remaining at Villa Park, the Ghana international required treatment before being replaced by Willian.

Although Arsenal have not yet disclosed the nature of Partey's injury, there is a fear that he could be forced to miss the clash with Marcelo Bielsa's Whites on Sunday. With that in mind, it is almost certain that he would be replaced in midfield by Mohamed Elneny.

Elsewhere, Bernd Leno and David Luiz are poised to return following suspension.

Gunners eye left-back deal

Arsenal are poised to make signing a left-back their number one priority in the forthcoming summer transfer window, The Athletic claims.

In the latter stages of last month's window, the Gunners made it their mission to try and land a left-back in an attempt to add some competition for places on the left side of the defence.

Despite being closely linked with the likes of Crystal Palace duo Patrick van Aanholt and Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace and Southampton's Ryan Bertrand, the Gunners failed to get a new left-back through the door before the window closed.

With that in mind, the Gunners are poised to make that position a priority in the summer, with a player younger than Tierney the preferred option.
