Arsenal evening headlines as Edu decides on next two transfer deals, duo handed England call-ups

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Monday, March 15.

Gunners duo named in England U21 squad

Arsenal youngsters Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah have both been named in England's Under-21 squad for their European Championships group stage matches at the end of March.

Under-23s boss Aidy Boothroyd announced his squad for the opening stages of the tournament this morning ahead of England's opening group match against Switzerland on Thursday, March 25.

Both Smith Rowe, who has been nothing short of outstanding in recent months, and Nketiah have been included in the squad but there was no place for Bukayo Saka, clearly because he will be featuring in Gareth Southgate's senior squad during the upcoming international break.

As well as Smith Rowe and Nketiah being handed opportunities to impress, a whole host of other exciting talent from across the Premier League has also been included in the squad, including Conor Gallagher of Chelsea and Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.

Edu decides on next two targets

Arsenal technical director Edu is already putting plans in place ahead of the summer transfer window opening for business.

That is because the Gunners transfer guru is looking to try and get a deals over the line for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N'Dicka and Yves Bissouma of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Arsenal have been credited with interest in the young French centre-back whilst football.london understands that Bissouma would be open to joining the Gunners if the opportunity presented itself.

Both players have been in fine form for their current clubs this season and it is easy to understand why the Gunners would be interested in landing their signatures.

Luiz makes top-four admission

Centre-back David Luiz is refusing to give up on Arsenal's prospects of finishing inside the top-four this season following Sunday's 2-1 win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

After falling behind to Erik Lamela's stunning opener, the Gunners responded through goals from Martin Odegaard - his first in the Premier League - and Alexandre Lacazette, who netted the winner from the penalty spot.

Although the Gunners' second Premier League win in their last three matches kept them tenth in the table, it did bolster their prospects of securing a spot in the UEFA Europa League for next season.

However, Luiz fails to see any reason as to why the Gunners cannot go one better and stake a claim for a top-four spot.

Luiz, as quoted by Football365, said: “We have to try and continue in this way, try to improve.

“We are far (off), but we have a great team and we can continue in this way and try to win points every week.”
