Arsenal evening headlines as David Luiz drops transfer hint, £30m Lacazette domino effect

Here are the latest Arsenal evening headlines for Sunday, August 9.

David Luiz hints at Willian arrival

David Luiz has hinted former Chelsea and Brazil team-mate Willian is set to join him at Arsenal this summer.

The 32-year-old confirmed today he is leaving Chelsea after seven years after he failed to agree fresh terms with the Blues over a contract extension.

Willian has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates, with reports indicating the club have offered him a three-year contract.

And now Luiz has added to that speculation with a cryptic Instagram post.

Wishing Willian a happy birthday, Luiz added the caption ‘always together’ which saw some fans to question if the two were set to reunite in north London.

Arteta’s blueprint to unlock Willian's true potential

It would appear the worst-kept secret in football is that Willian is edging towards becoming an Arsenal player.

The 32-year-old confirmed his departure from Chelsea today which clears the way for him to join Arsenal on a free transfer later this month.

Football.london reported on Friday that Willian was closing in on a switch to the Emirates after Chelsea failed to match the Gunners offer of a three-year contract.

Now, reporter James Benge has written about how Mikel Arteta intends to get the best out of the Brazilian, in a way that Chelsea never managed to.

New Aubameyang deal may cause Lacazette departure

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing a new deal with Arsenal will pave the way for Alexandre Lacazette to join Atletico Madrid, according to the Daily Star.

Aubameyang is in the final twelve months of his current Arsenal contract, but the Gunners are understood to be desperate to secure a long-term agreement with the player.

The report states that his acceptance of a new deal will begin a chain reaction that will send Lacazette to Spain for a fee of £30million.

The former Lyon striker was close to joining Diego Simeone’s side in 2017, but a transfer ban scuppered the move.
