Arsenal evening headlines as Dani Ceballos loan deal extended and transfer battle for PSG ace

Here are the Arsenal evening headlines on Monday, June 22.

Arsenal transfer tussle for PSG free agent - report

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa on a free transfer, but will face competition from Chelsea for his signature.

The Sun reports the Gunners are keen on signing Kurzawa this summer once his PSG contract has expired, with Mikel Arteta searching for bargains in the transfer market to overhaul his squad at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea have reportedly joined the race for the 27-year-old, with Kurzawa seen as a potential back-up option to Ben Chilwell if the Blues can’t lure the England international to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City.

Mikel Arteta: "It's unacceptable."

Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney have both been used at left-back by Arteta this season with Sead Kolasinac also an option for Arsenal in the position.

Dani Ceballos loan extension agreed - report

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement for the extension of Dani Ceballos’ loan from Real Madrid until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The Spanish midfielder had been set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of June, but with the coronavirus shutdown extending the Premier League season until the end of July he was left in a difficult situation.

However, Marca (via Sports Mole) report Real Madrid have agreed to the extension of Ceballos’ loan arrangement which will allow the midfielder to see out the season in North London.

Ceballos has made 16 appearances for the Gunners in the Premier League this season, assisting twice. Recent reports claim Real Madrid will cash in on the 23-year-old this summer with Valencia believed to be interested.

Gullit adds to criticism of ‘overrated’ David Luiz

Former Chelsea and Netherlands legend Ruud Gullit has added to the mounting criticism of David Luiz, labelling the Arsenal defender an “overrated player”.

The Brazilian centre-back endured a nightmare performance against Manchester City last week, making a costly defensive blunder, conceding a penalty and being shown red all after coming on as a substitute.

A number of figures have lined up to criticise Luiz and now Gullit has added his name to the list of critical voices. “Yes, David is not doing well. I think he’s an overrated player, really,” he told the Metro.

“When he played in midfield I thought he was reasonable, but then there was already discussion about what he actually is as a player. But he preferred to play as a defender… well, we all remember the match between Brazil and Germany (7-1 at the 2014 World Cup). I just can’t understand it.

"Most clubs have done away with him, but he keeps coming back somewhere.”
