Mikel Arteta ready to offload three players to fund move for Atletico Madrid midfielder
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is willing to let three players leave the club this summer in order to help fund a move for Thomas Partey.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for a number of weeks and months and Arteta is keen to do a deal for the 27-year-old before the start of the new Premier League season.
According to the Mirror, the Gunners could offload three players, with Matteo Guendouzi one of those who has been made available for sale this summer.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos is another who would be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium should a good enough offer be made for the Greek international, with Rob Holding set to sign for Newcastle United.
Former Arsenal striker makes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang claim
Ian Wright believes the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new contract would be Arsenal’s next business of the summer transfer window.
Arteta has reiterated more than once his belief that Aubameyang will put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him in North London, but Arsenal fans, including Wright, remain nervous as the saga continues to drag on.
"To be honest, I think he will be the most significant signing Mikel can make," Wright told Good Morning Britain. "We do need to make that happen, simply because of what he brings to that team.
"When you look at the chances created for Arsenal, they were 16th in the league and he still scored the amount of goals he scored.
"So if you can imagine, we can start creating more with the players we have signed - the Willians and people like that - then he is going to score more goals. It is imperative that he signs."
Arsenal goalkeeper set for reunion with former manager in La Liga
Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery is hoping to plot a move for Emiliano Martinez if the goalkeeper is told he won’t be first choice at Arsenal this season.
Martinez, who proved himself as an able deputy for the injured Bernd Leno in the final few games of last season, wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium, but only if he is considered Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Telegraph claims Emery, now in charge of Villarreal, is keen on luring Martinez to La Liga should the Argentine be informed that he will be seen as an understudy to Leno once more this season.
It’s also reported that Arteta has yet to speak to both Leno and Martinez over who will be his first-choice goalkeeper for the 2020/21 campaign.
