Arsenal evening headlines as Arteta is criticised and Rodgers confirms Leicester injury news

Here are your Arsenal headlines for the evening of Monday July 6.

Leicester City could be without two key players for crunch Arsenal clash

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Leicester City could be without Ben Chilwell and James Maddison for the crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

A resurgent Gunners side are still in the hunt for a Champions League place, but will need three points against the Foxes at the Emirates Stadium this week to keep their chances of a top four finish alive.

Arsenal have been given a boost by the news that Leicester might be without two of their best players.

“We’ve got doubts over James Maddison and Ben Chilwell,” Rodgers admitted in his weekly press conference. “They could be the two who could struggle. We just have to wait and see.

“Ben’s is at the bottom of his foot. It’s giving him pain. We’ll see what the specialist says. Sometimes you can play through it.”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brother hits out at Arsenal manager

The brother of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Willy Aubameyang, has angrily hit out at Mikel Arteta, questioning why the Arsenal manager has played the Gabonese striker out wide.

Despite being a natural goalscorer, Aubameyang has been used predominantly on the left wing, angering the player’s brother - who took to Instagram to let his disgruntlement with Arteta be known.

“I like Mikel, he's a good coach,” he said . “He's a good coach but I don't like when he puts my brother on the left. I don't like this, but he's a good coach.

“I don't understand this. I don't understand. I don't like when he plays on the left. I like when he plays striker. But I like him [Arteta]. He's good. He has, you know, character.”

Arsenal defender wins over Mikel Arteta with ‘commitment, attitude and dedication’

Shkodran Mustafi has reportedly won over new Arsenal manager Arteta with his “commitment, attitude and dedication,” meaning the German defender could be kept by the club over the summer.

The Sun claims Arteta has become a fan of Mustafi since taking over at the Emirates Stadium, with the German international currently a mainstay of the Gunners’ three-man defensive line.

Mustafi had previously been linked with a move away from North London, with a return to the Bundesliga mooted, but his recent form has caused a rethink over his future at Arsenal.

“We try to help every player to improve, first of all by making them feel that we trust them,” Arteta said of the 28-year-old. “Everyone can make mistakes, of course, but if they are willing to keep trying then they will get rewarded.

“Musti’s attitude, the way he is training, attention levels, the questions he is asking and how much he wants to help everybody has been really good since I joined.”
