Arsenal equaliser was hard to swallow because I thought Liverpool had won it, says Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson found Alexandre Lacazette's equaliser particularly difficult to stomach because he thought Liverpool had done enough to beat Arsenal on Saturday.

James Milner had put the Reds in front in the second half at Emirates Stadium and on course for a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League before Lacazette struck late to rescue a merited point for the Gunners.

Though Liverpool returned to the summit, Robertson was left to rue missed "clear-cut chances" as the Reds squandered a lead for the first time in the league this season.

“It was a hard one because we took the lead and this season we’ve been really good at holding on to leads. I thought that was going to be the case,” Robertson told Liverpool's official website.

“We lost a poor goal from our point of view. If you look back on the game they probably had more possession but the clear-cut chances have all fallen to us.

“On another day we could have been a bit more comfortable, but two good teams went at it and a draw is probably a fair result.”

Lacazette's smart finish across Alisson Becker preserved Arsenal's 14-game unbeaten run as Unai Emery's men continued their impressive form under new leadership.

And the frustration felt by Liverpool spoke volumes for the progress they have made since snatching a late 3-3 draw against a less imposing Arsenal side 10 months ago.

“If you look at last season, especially away from home against the so-called top six teams, we didn’t do well enough," Robertson added.

“The only point we picked up was here [at Arsenal], 3-3, so we’ve kind of rectified that a bit in the games that we’ve played [so far this season].

“We are unbeaten against the top six so it’s positive but we could have quite easily won. Hopefully at the end of the season it will be a point gained – but just now it doesn’t feel like that.”
