Arsenal enter transfer battle with Real Madrid for Brazilian wonderkid

Arsenal are set to compete with Real Madrid to try to lure Flamengo's Reinier Jesus to the club.

The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in South America at the moment, and Gunners manager Unai Emery is said to see him as a hugely promising talent.

Jesus has not yet made a senior first-team appearance for his club, but he has captained Brazil at youth level and has scored five goals in nine games for Brazil U17s.

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb the Gunners will go head-to-head with Madrid, although they are seen as outsiders for the transfer as it has emerged that Jesus grew up idolising Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

Jesus said: "I’m heavily inspired by [Zinedine] Zidane. I’ve watched a lot of videos on the internet of him playing.

“I’m always trying to execute plays like he did.”

But with fellow Brazilian Edu set to join Arsenal as technical director, it may give them more of a chance of being able to tempt Jesus to north London.

Jesus has a release clause of £60.5m, but it remains to be seen if Flamengo- who are currently third in the Brazilian top division with 17 points after nine games- would accept a lower offer for the player.

Jesus has been compared to Brazilian legend Kaka in his style of play, and it is fair to say Gunners fans have been getting rather excited about the prospective transfer on social media.

One user posted on Twitter : "Seen a few clips. Way better than Ozil. We need some flair/speed into our attack. Sign him up.”

Another added: "One of Brazil's best young talents. An attacking midfielder with a great eye for goal, with eye-opening pace for his 6'1 frame. If Arsenal get their hands on him, they could have a generational talent."
