Arsenal duo involved in crazy incident as Marseille's clash with Nice is suspended

Arsenal loanees Mateo Guendouzi and William Saliba were involved for Marseille as their Ligue 1 clash with Nice was suspended in controversial circumstances.

The duo started the game from the off in southern France and saw their side fall behind when Kasper Dolberg scored just after half-time.

But a moment madness struck on 76 minutes when Dimitri Payet appeared to get hit by an object from the stands and then threw it back which sparked wild scenes at the Allianz Riviera Stadium.

Moments later, chaos descended on the pitch as supporters began to invade the playing surface and both managers got involved in the melee.

Guendouzi and teammate Alvaro Gonzalez rushed over to support Payet amidst a whole host of Nice fans who tried to force their way towards the players.

Trouble had been brewing before the game even started as Steve Mandanda was forced to clear bottles from his own penalty area.

It turned out to be a fiery encounter from the off, as six yellow cards were handed out across the two teams and four of those bookings occurred between the 63rd and 71st minute

The game was stopped after the incident involving Payet, with Nice leading 1-0 and they were heading for their second win of the season.

Aside from those events, Saliba and Guendouzi were both named in the starting line-up as they look to get some valuable minutes under their belt.

Saliba, who joined the Gunners from Saint Etienne in 2019, looked solid throughout the first half and almost scored but his header flashed wide of target.

Guendouzi also produced an astute performance in a more advanced midfield role, as he continues his second successive loan spell away from the club.

The pair made their debuts in Marseille's 2-2 draw against Bordeaux last weekend and will be hoping for a more positive outcome when they're next in action.
