Arsenal determined to stand by Unai Emery after signs of clear gameplan against Leicester

Arsenal remain determined to stand behind Unai Emery as manager despite falling eight points adrift of the Premier League‘s top four in the wake of Saturday’s defeat to Leicester City.

One report in Spain emerged minutes after the final whistle of the Gunners’ 2-0 loss at the King Power Stadium claiming that head of football Raúl Sanllehi has made contact with Luis Enrique to discuss replacing Emery.

However, the club are in fact keen to give Emery an opportunity to turn things around and believe the run of upcoming games gives the Spaniard the chance to do just that.

There is sympathy with the head coach over the difficulties Arsenal have faced this season, including Laurent Koscielny forcing through a move to Bordeaux and the attempted carjacking suffered by Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac in north London during pre-season.

Leicester are also acknowledged to be a more settled side at present and encouragement is taken from a clear gameplan which kept Arsenal in a relatively even contest for 68 minutes prior to Jamie Vardy’s opening goal.

Concerns are mounting over the team’s longer term progression, however, and Emery is under pressure to instigate a turnaround in fortunes.

The international break will give a chance to freshen up perspectives before returning to face Southampton at Emirates Stadium on 23 November.
