Arsenal defender set to complete short-term loan move in aim to impress Mikel Arteta

Arsenal Under-23’s defender Joseph Olowu is set to complete a short-term loan move to League of Ireland side Cork City this week, with the north London club deciding that the 20-year-old needs his first taste of senior football.

Olowu, a Nigerian born centre half who can also play at right back, has been a regular for Steve Bould’s young Gunners since turning 18.

But football.london understands he will now join Cork until the summer, after already appearing as a trialist for the club in a 2-0 win over Longford Town at the weekend.

The defender came through the Arsenal academy and signed professional terms in December 2017.

Posting on Twitter at the time, he said: "Delighted to have signed my first professional contract, looking forward to continuing my development at this great club.

"The real work starts now. All glory to God."

Cork, who are managed by former Tottenham player Neale Fenn, begin their league campaign at home to Shelbourne on Friday night.

They are also expected to sign the Queens Park Rangers midfielder Deshane Dalling on loan in the coming days having last week brought in AFC Wimbledon’s Kyron Stabana on a temporary deal.
