Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac on the bench as Mezut Ozil misses Burnley clash with illness

Sead Kolasinac was named on the Arsenal bench as Mesut Ozil missed out altogether through illness just over a week after the pair were withdrawn from the squad to face Newcastle over safety fears.

Ahead of the game head coach Unai Emery insisted Ozil and Kolasinac were both mentally ready to play despite "further security incidents" forcing them out of last weekend's trip to St. James' Park.

It is understood a number of security threats were under police investigation following a car-jacking attempt on the pair last month.

Both returned to training this week and Kolasinac made the bench for the visit of Burnley, with Ozil absent having been ill during the week.

David Luiz came in for his Arsenal debut, while Alexandre Lacazette was recalled after an ankle injury and Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos came in for Granit Xhaka, who has back and leg bruising.

Signed on transfer deadline day from rival Chelsea, Luiz was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win at Newcastle but replaced Callum Chambers in the Gunners defence for their first home game of the campaign, with club-record signing Nicolas Pepe once again named on the bench.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Luiz, Papastathopoulos, Monreal, Ceballos, Guendouzi, Nelson, Willock, Aubameyang, Lacazette.

Subs: Mkhitaryan, Torreira, Pepe, Chambers, Martinez, Kolasinac, Gabriel Martinelli.
