Arsenal defender Rob Holding replies to Arsene Wenger's infamous 'apology'

Rob Holding has revealed that he uses Arsene Wenger's 'apology' about him as motivation at Arsenal .

Gunners defender Holding moved to north London from Bolton for around £2million in the 2016 summer transfer window - having only previously played in the Championship.

That low price, and notability, sparked an angry Wenger to hit out in a press conference following a defeat to Leicester - and apologised that Holding cost less than John Stones, who had recently joined Manchester City for £55m.

"Unfortunately no one speaks about the performance of Rob Holding," Wenger said. "You should be happy, he is English and 20 years old.

"I am sorry he didn’t cost £55 million, so he can’t be good. We don’t speak about the performances anymore and I think that is not right."

Holding held a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) during which a fan quizzed him about the quotes, which came after his second outing for the Gunners, and how they effected him.

"I enjoyed his response and I do use it as motivation that I am who I am and hard work will get me where I want to be," Holding wrote.

The centre back is hoping to continue his comeback from a serious knee injury by appearing against Sheffield United on Monday night.

Unai Emery has hinted that he could utilise Holding alongside fellow injury returnees Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney.

The Spaniard said: He's [Tierney) ready to play. Now we have two options in that left-back role with Sead Kolasinac and him

"We’re going to play a lot of matches after Monday. We will need every player.

"It depends how he comes into the first training with us, Sead, after his international matches.

"We now have two players in that position and we can use one on Monday, it depends how they are, one or the other."
