Arsenal look set to miss out on Barcelona star Emerson Royal after a busy week for the Brazilian.
The Gunners were said to be keen on a move for the right-back, who impressed this season for Real Betis as Manuel Pellegrini's men qualified for the Europa League.
However, Emerson has already moved on from Betis, joining Barcelona in a move that was very much expected due to strange deal between the two sides.
Barcelona and Betis bought a portion of Emerson each from Atletico Mineiro in January 2019 with the understanding he would initially spend time with the former.
After impressing this season, Barcelona bought up the rest of his contract for around £8million having already paid £10.8million as part of the initial deal, with Betis paying £5.4million.
Despite the recent move to Camp Nou, it was thought Emerson could be made available with Barca completing the deal solely because it made financial sense.
But that does not appear to be the case with Barca expert Roger Torello reporting that Emerson has been told he is an important part of the club's project ahead of next season.
And to convince him, they are already considering his contract until at least 2025.
If that is true, Arsenal's chances of landing Emerson this summer, as recently reported, are likely to be somewhere close to zero with the Brazilian looking likely to play a part at Camp Nou next season.
According to reports, the Gunners were looking to snap up Emerson to replace Hector Bellerin, who looks set to leave the club this summer, but they will now have to look elsewhere if their long-serving Spanish right-back does depart.
