Arsenal dealt major Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang injury worry ahead of Liverpool clash

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been ruled out of Gabon's clash against Egypt, the national team have confirmed.

Aubameyang, 32, played in his home nation's crucial 1-0 World Cup qualifier home win over Libya, a game in which he netted the only goal of the encounter with a 54th-minute penalty that kept Gabon's hopes alive of making it to Qatar 2022.

However, Arsenal fans were worried after the game following the decision to carry Aubameyang off on a stretcher.

He appeared to have recovered later in the day when he appeared on Instagram Live to seemingly quash any suspicions that he may have suffered from a bad injury that would make him a doubt for Arsenal's clash with Liverpool at the weekend, as he celebrated in the dressing room.

Nevertheless, there is now further doubt about his fitness after Gabon confirmed that he will miss this afternoon's (Tuesday) clash with Egypt, on Twitter.

Whilst he could well be suffering from something minor and missing the game as a precaution, with the exact problem still unknown, Arsenal fans will be worried about their captain's availability moving forward.

The Gabon international has re-found his form this season. Although he has only scored four times in the Premier League, his all-round game has drastically improved and he's developed into the natural leader Mikel Arteta wants and needs.

Arsenal haven't won at Anfield in the Premier League since the 2012/13 season - a game Arteta was in fact playing in - and judging by Liverpool's form so far this season, the Gunners will find it hard to come away with anything.

An absent Aubameyang will only make the task more difficult and so everyone connected with the club will be hoping it's nothing serious.
